Kyle Arndt is a transactional real estate attorney and a founding partner in Bocarsly Emden. While Mr. Arndt has experience in a wide variety of transactional matters, he has focused his practice in the areas of real estate development, tax credit syndication, private equity real estate investment and mezzanine lending. He represents developers of multi-family, single family, commercial, retail industrial and office centers throughout the United Stated with an emphasis on urban infill commercial and affordable housing projects. Mr. Arndt also represents private equity investors, fund managers and mezzanine lenders who participate in a wide variety of real estate transactions.
Mr. Arndt has participated in numerous multi-family housing and single family housing developments targeted at low and moderate income persons. Mr. Arndt has represented developers and tax credit equity investors in hundreds of affordable multi-family housing developments financed using the Federal Low Income Housing Tax Credit, Tax Exempt Private Activity Bonds, Federal CDBG and HOME Funds, local tax increment funds and other similar sources. Mr. Arndt also represents equity investors and mezzanine lenders in market rate in-fill housing projects targeted to working families and first time home buyers.
In addition to low and moderate income housing developments, Mr. Arndt routinely participates in commercial and mixed-use economic development projects located in urban areas. Mr. Arndt has structured a wide variety of public and private debt and equity financing for these project including the use of New Market Tax Credits, Historic Tax Credits, Federal Section 108 Loans, Community Facility Districts and Tax Increment Financing. Mr. Arndt has extensive experience in structuring real estate transactions between the Public and Private Sectors. These Public/Private Partnerships have included Disposition and Development Agreements, Long Term Ground Leases and shared equity appreciation Financing. Along with his Partners, Mr. Arndt has been at the forefront of structuring transactions using a wide variety of Federal, State and local energy tax credits and incentives.
Mr. Arndt has been actively involved with a number of community-based organizations in Los Angeles. Mr. Arndt served on the Board of Directors of the UCLA Law Alumni Association from 1995 to 1998. Mr. Arndt is also a past member of the Board of Directors of the Westside Village Civic Association, one of the largest homeowners groups in the City of Los Angeles. Mr. Arndt currently serves as the President of the Board of Directors of Hollywood Community Housing Corporation (HCHC), one of the largest non-profit developers of affordable and special needs housing in Los Angeles County. Under Mr. Arndt’s direction, HCHC has developed over three hundred units of affordable housing as well as innovative mixed used developments which have served as a template for mixed-use urban infill projects though out the State.
Mr. Arndt maintains active memberships in a variety of professional associations. Mr. Arndt is a member of the American Bar Association Forum on Affordable Housing and Community Development Law and has served as both the Materials Editor and Chairperson of the Forum’s annual conference. Mr. Arndt’s publications include “Defenestrating the Myth of Private Inurement and Public Benefit”, Journal of Affordable Housing and Community Development Law, Vol. 7, No. 1 (1997). Mr. Arndt has also been quoted by publications such as the Wall Street Journal, L.A. Times and Los Angeles Business Journal on issues relating to housing and economic development and urban revitalization.
Mr. Arndt attended law school at the University of California, Los Angeles where he was Editor-in-Chief of the UCLA Law Review. Prior to receiving his JD, Mr. Arndt received a Masters in Urban Planning from the UCLA Graduate School of Architecture and Urban Planning. Mr. Arndt also has a Bachelors of Arts from the University of California, Santa Cruz.
